About Me:
My name is Jordan Williamson. I’m a rising sophomore at Delaware State University, majoring in Aviation Science with a specialization in becoming a Professional Pilot. I’m also a proud member of the Delaware Air Force National Guard. Currently, I’m pursuing my goal of becoming a USAF Reserve Pilot while also working as a commercial airline pilot. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities like fishing and walking. Above all, I love getting involved in new and beneficial activities, such as participating in community events in my hometown and exploring volunteer opportunities.
Why are you passionate about aviation?
I’m passionate about aviation because of how determined you have to be to succeed in this field. Going through the motions, finding my rhythm in this vast industry, has taught me so much about myself and molded me into a better person — specifically in settings that force you to mature on and off the cockpit. Not only does this profession mold you to evolve your mentality, but it also upholds that mentality, as you'll encounter a vast group of individuals driven by helping others. I call that my aviation family. Being in a position where I can learn life lessons through my passion and pay it forward to others is something I become more confident in every day. That feeling is why I will never leave the cockpit.
Why did you choose to apply to Tuskegee NEXT and how did you hear about the program?
I originally found out about Tuskegee NEXT through alumna Kai Wright, who inspired me to apply and work through the acceptance process. I am extremely grateful to be a part of this amazing community, and I am humbled and focused on working through its rigorous process.
I also chose to apply to Tuskegee NEXT because of the representation they uphold in honor of the esteemed Tuskegee Airmen. I am a proud member of the First State Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, hosted by Delaware State University. This organization helped me grow.
To love and greatly respect the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, created as a byproduct of their bravery. Finding more about the untold history behind these men created the core values I needed to succeed in this program. Fighting for a country that they cherished more than it cherished them completely changed my approach to becoming a military aviator. Representation is the biggest factor in challenging the statistic that there are fewer than 300 Black USAF pilots, and the team at Tuskegee NEXT creates an atmosphere where I can focus on my goal while honoring the heroes who fought for my dream to be achievable.
What are your future aviation aspirations?
I aspire to become a commercial and military pilot. Currently, I’m working on earning a Command Sponsorship within the USAF Reserves to secure a pilot slot by the end of my senior year at Delaware State University. Additionally, I’m committed to being an active member of OBAP and creating opportunities for minority youth to envision themselves as military pilots.
Fun Fact:
I’ve played volleyball for 8 years and now every summer I help coach campers on how to play!
